SpoonRiver Anthology Pt. 2 Released
Chatterbox Audio Theater has released the second installation of Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters as a part of the "Twelve Shows in Twelve Months" initiative. Each installment introduces you to fifty members of the Spoon River community as each tells their story from beyond the grave.
I had the great pleasure of working with my very soon-to-be husband, Zach Williams, on this project. Bob Arnold, executive director of Chatterbox Audio Theater, paired us together for the only poem in the anthology that involves two characters simultaneously telling a story. It's also the one of the only poems where we never find out these two people's last names. So it was a lot of fun exploring the ideas of "the eternal love," how even after death love can bind people together, whether William and Emily were like the BrAngelina of Spoon River, among other things.
I don't think it was intentional, but this release comes exactly one week before Zach and I tie the knot, and it's kind of the most perfect timing. Yes, I know this poem is slightly morbid since it's about two people who have passed away. But the language and images of love are quite beautiful and it reminds me that in seven very short days I will pledge my life to Zach so we are forever us.
...I may or may not still have to write my vows though...
maybe I'll just improv them. I mean, that is my forte....
(Just kidding, Mom. I swear.)
