WTFM 2016: In Search of Tonto Goldstein
It's here, folks! The Women's Theatre Festival of Memphis! And this Friday and Saturday you can catch Jai Johnson and Jillian Barron in the National Premiere Performance of In Search of Tonto Goldstein by Joy Jones and Linda Hopper.
Jai and Jillian were last seen together on stage in The Offering produced by Bluff City Tri-Art Theatre of Memphis and Byhalia, MS produced by Playhouse On The Square. After WTFM, Jai will be performing in Disgraced with Playhouse On The Square and Jillian will be joining the Tennessee Shakespeare Company in August. This is the first comedy the two have done together and they are very excited to show you what they have been working on.
So what is this play about?
As written in the Mason Gazette:
"In Search of Tonto Goldstein, a play written by communication adjunct professor Linda Hopper and her colleague Joy Jones...focuses on a long-term platonic relationship between two women named Maud and Hannah and their activities such as loving multiple men, getting tattoos, and discussing why it’s better to grow older and not wiser.
"In Search of Tonto Goldstein is the first play Hopper has written. Hopper, who has been involved with the university since 1979, introduced herself to the Mason community by judging speech competitions. She currently teaches organizational communication at Mason and also holds the position of director of leadership management at Georgetown University.
"For this play, Hopper teamed up with Jones, a prominent local playwright, teacher, and writer whose plays have been seen on stages in New York, California, and Washington, D.C. Her play Outdoor Recess won first place in the Promising Playwrights Contest and was produced by the Colonial Players in Annapolis, Md. In addition to writing plays and books, Jones teaches middle school and is the director of The Spoken Word Performance Poetry Ensemble."
In Search of Tonto Goldstein will premiere on Friday July 15th at 5:30pm on the Mainstage at Hatiloo Theatre in Midtown Memphis. It's second and final performance will follow on Saturday, July 16th at 8:30pm. You can purchase tickets, check out the line-up, and find more information on the festival HERE. But hurry!
