A Dream Come True

It is 2001.

Charleston, IL.

I grab my "Abba's Greatest Hits" CD, boom box, and rotating disco light, and head down into the basement of my house.

I plug in the boom box, turn on the colorful light, and wait as the CD buzzes to life.

All at once the strings, synthesizers, and saxophones come blazing to life as that marvelous quartet sang disco songs.

With no one around except my stuffed animals, I dance my heart out as I perform all of these amazing, never-before-seen choreographed moves that cause people to "oooo" and "ahhh" song after song.

This is how I spent many an evening while I was living in Charleston. I didn't have many friends, but that didn't bother me as long as I was able to perform to my favorite band, dreaming of the day when I could do it for real.

TODAY was that day.

I got to dance to "Voulez-vous" with dozens of other auditionees at Playhouse on the Square. Was I perfect? Absolutely not. Was I happy? Absofuckinglutely. It literally was a dream come true. Whether I get cast or not will not tarnish the pure joy that I felt in my heart as I whipped my hair and snaked and spun and danced all over the rehearsal hall. 10 year-old Jilly was in the mirror smiling back at me. And by god we DANCED.
